For months we could not tell whether one person or a hundred thousand had read these sites. Every decision about what to write and what to fix was made blind. So we turned on analytics, and this post says what that means.
It does not load until you say yes
The analytics script is added to the page only after you accept, so no request reaches Google and no cookie is set before you decide. Decline once and you are not asked again. A Cookie settings link in every footer reopens the choice, and switching it off deletes the analytics cookies on the spot.
What it collects, and why
Pages viewed and how you arrived. City-level location from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not itself store. Browser, operating system, screen size, language. A random identifier in a first-party cookie so a second visit counts as the same person. If you are signed in, a pseudonymous account id, so one person using several DRM3 apps counts once. No name, no email, no advertising, no sale, no data brokers.
We use it for one purpose: to see which pages people read and where they give up, so we can improve the product. The privacy policy on every site names what is collected, who processes it, and how long it is kept.
